My name is Stuart J. Cohen. I am a citizen of the United States of America, but live permanently in Bédar, Almería. I hold a policy from ASSSA Insurance. I have been asked to describe my experiences resulting from surgery and rehabilitation for a prosthesis for my right knee. On January 27, 2015 I had knee replacement surgery by the traumatologist, Dr. Ramos Salguero. He had performed the same surgery on my left knee one year earlier. In both cases he performed superbly. Not only is he an excellent surgeon, he is also a kind and caring physician. In both cases my results have been excellent.
My surgeries were performed at Virgen del Mar hospital in Almería. The care I received at the hospital was excellent both prior to surgery and during my hospital stay. I am a retired Professor of Public Health and Internal Medicine. So I am very familiar with issues about the quality of care. I believe that the care I received was first-rate.
Essential to the recovery from knee replacement surgery is the quality of the physiotherapy. I went to Visiedo Clinic in Garrucha, Almería. My physiotherapist was Jerónima Visiedo Aguado. She was outstanding. She motivated me to work hard both during sessions and at home. Consequently I made excellent progress. I was able to walk without assistance seven weeks after surgery. I have now returned to the gym where I use exercise equipment and weight machines to continually strengthen muscles that had atrophied during convalence.
I also want to thank Mrs. María Dolores Castaño who staffs the ASSSA office in Vera, Almería. She has been most helpful throughout this process. Despite a very heavy workload, she is always cheerful and willing to help me. She even called me during my recovery to see how I was doing. She is an exemplary employee. Therefore I would like to emphasize the swiftness with which ASSSA managed my treatment before and after the surgery and the importance of relying on their professional support. Although I speak Spanish, help was available in my own language.
