It is extremely complex and is constantly being remodelled and adapted on a day-to-day basis. The aetiology of temporomandibular dysfunction is multi-factor. It is rarely associated with mouth problems such as occlusion, for example, alone, and the solution lies not only with dentists, but also with other health professionals such as maxillofacial surgeons, physiotherapists, endocrinologists, radiologists and psychologists.
