In summer, hair can become dry, damaged and dull due to prolonged exposure to the sun, chlorine from swimming pools and sea salt. It is therefore important to protect and look after it. Here are a few tips:
- Choose hydrating hair products
Shampoos and conditioners must contain high quality natural ingredients, with no silicones and sulphates, that are gentle and nourish and protect your hair. They should contain argan oil.
- Avoid hot water
Hot water can dry out your scalp and hair, so it is best to wash your hair with lukewarm or cool water.
It is also important to wash your hair after every swim at the beach or in the pool to prevent salt, sand and chlorine residues from damaging your hair.
- Avoid hairdryers, straighteners and curlers.
If you do use them, remember to protect your hair with a heat protector first.
- Do not comb wet hair
Wet hair is weaker and does not withstand vigorous brushing, so always brush dry, from the middle to the ends, never from the roots, dragging the knots downwards. It is therefore advisable to opt for combs with wide bristles and no balls on the ends.
- Protect your scalp
It is important to wear a cap, shawl or scarf when you are out in the sun for long periods of time, as well as to use specific sunscreens for this area, such as your hair parting. This will prevent not only the risk of burns and lesions on your skin and scalp, but also hair loss (telogen effluvium).
- Avoid aggressive bleaching and dyes
If you dye your hair, it is best to use ammonia-free hair dye and apply it only to the roots. It is also helpful to use masks and sprays as an additional measure to hydrate your hair.
- Protect your hair from humidity
Anti-frizz products help you to manage frizz and keep your hair under control. Loose braids or pigtails are also useful to prevent tangling and damage from humidity.
- Internal hydration:
Don’t forget to drink plenty of water, as this also influences how healthy your hair is.
Remember to protect your scalp from ultraviolet radiation with sunscreen, and also apply it to your forehead and the bridge of your nose, the areas where the sun hits your scalp the hardest. These tips will help you to enjoy healthy, strong hair all year round.
