Active and Optimistic Lifestyle

Our psychological well-being is almost as, or even more important than, our physical health. When we are active and optimistic, we may live longer and even avoid premature aging. Happy persons who smile often live longer and better and may overcome serious illness, while a simple cold can overwhelm a pessimistic one. Our body responds with numerous illnesses when our mental state is not positive.

Optimism and motivation are intimately linked. When one fails to have an active life full of goals and aspirations, pessimism can lead to depression, isolation, and the consequent deterioration of one’s mental and physical abilities.

Our brain is a great muscle that makes the rest of the bodywork, so we need to keep it active and find motives through which to feel useful and vital. Examples are: sharing our experiences in a diary or blog, educating our grandchildren, volunteering with and no profit association, pursuing artistic activities, caring for a pet, nurturing a garden full flowers in Bloom… any activity to awaken dormant motivations.

Knowledge enriches our spirit most, so Reading, watching quality films going to a museum or the theatre, studying, conversing with Friends and family, reflecting on our lives and the difficulties we encounter as humans, for example, can open our mind unto unexplored horizons.

Regular physical exercise prevents respiratory problems, osteoporosis, blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, and produces endorphins – the “happiness hormones”-which fight stress and depression. Exercise increases our sense of equilibrium and coordination, fundamental to optimism. Man is a creature of habit. A healthy lifestyle, including adequate eating and exercise habits, Will drive our desire to live life to the fullest, prolong our existence, and intensify our satisfaction.
