We commemorate World Chess Day, held on 20 July; a date declared by UNESCO that emphasises the intellectual and cultural nature of this sport, as well as its benefits for health and mental well‑being.
Chess is one of the oldest known games and is suitable for all ages. Its worldwide recognition makes it one of the most widely practised sports globally, with more than 600 million players.
